Son of Roma and Italy Legend Francesco Totti Retires Aged Just 19 and Teams Up with Father in New Job

In a surprising turn of events that has captured the attention of Italian football fans, Cristian Totti, the son of AS Roma and Italy icon Francesco Totti, has announced his retirement from professional football at the tender age of 19. The young forward, once viewed as a promising heir to the Totti footballing legacy, has instead chosen to walk a different path — one that will see him working alongside his legendary father in an off-field role.

Cristian’s decision, while unexpected, did not come lightly. The young Totti had been part of the Roma youth setup for years and had even attracted interest from clubs in Serie C and Serie B. However, after a period of reflection, he decided that the pressures and expectations of professional football — especially with a surname like Totti — were not conducive to his happiness or personal growth.

“It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while,” Cristian said in a brief statement. “Football will always be a part of me, but I realized that playing professionally was not where my heart truly is. I have so much respect for my father and everything he achieved, and now I look forward to learning from him in a different way.”

Cristian will now be joining Francesco Totti’s growing business venture in sports management. Since retiring in 2017 after an illustrious career with Roma, where he made over 780 appearances and scored 307 goals, Totti has turned his focus to scouting, player representation, and talent development through his agency, CT10 Management. Cristian is expected to take on a junior role at the agency, focusing on client relations, media coordination, and possibly scouting.

Francesco Totti expressed both pride and understanding at his son’s decision. “Every parent wants their child to find happiness, whether that’s on the pitch or off it,” he said. “Cristian has a good head on his shoulders. He understands the world of football, and he’ll bring a fresh perspective to our work at the agency. I’m proud of him not just as a father, but as a mentor.”

Cristian’s early retirement has inevitably sparked conversation across Italy, especially among Roma fans who had hoped to one day see another Totti don the iconic maroon and gold. The comparisons were always going to be there — unfairly so, some would argue — and many insiders suggest that the burden of living up to such a historic name may have contributed to Cristian’s decision to step away.

“Imagine being 17 or 18 and every time you step on the pitch, people are comparing you to one of the greatest players in Roma’s history,” said former Roma youth coach Alberto De Rossi. “Cristian had talent, no doubt. But the mental pressure was enormous. I respect his decision and I think he’ll be just as successful off the field.”

Although Cristian never made a senior appearance for Roma, he was part of the club’s Primavera side and showed flashes of potential as a quick, technically gifted attacker. He scored several goals in youth competitions and was reportedly being scouted by lower-division clubs in Italy and even some foreign teams before deciding to hang up his boots.

Now, Cristian will begin his new chapter in the ever-evolving world of football management. His close relationship with his father and his firsthand understanding of a footballer’s experience are expected to be valuable assets at CT10 Management. The agency currently represents several rising talents and has been involved in various transfer negotiations in recent seasons.

This generational handover from pitch to boardroom is a rare example of a football dynasty taking a different direction — not with one legend replacing another on the field, but with both father and son teaming up off it to shape the future of the sport in a more strategic and personal way.

While fans may be disappointed that they won’t see another Totti playing at the Stadio Olimpico, many have expressed admiration for Cristian’s mature decision. Social media has been flooded with messages of support, praising the young man for forging his own path and avoiding the shadow of unrealistic expectations.

In an era where mental health and personal fulfillment are becoming more openly discussed in sport, Cristian Totti’s decision reflects a broader shift in attitudes. No longer is football the only path for the sons of great players — and in this case, the son has chosen legacy not through imitation, but through innovation.

As Cristian Totti begins his journey off the pitch, football fans will be watching with interest to see what the next generation of the Totti family can achieve — not through goals and assists, but through vision, mentorship, and business savvy. The Totti name, it seems, is still set to echo through Italian fo

otball for years to come.
