The Giants’ first-round pick isn’t a fan of their new throwback jerseys.
Malik Nabers, the LSU wide receiver the Giants took No. 6 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, gave his thoughts on Big Blue’s new “Century Red” throwback uniforms they unveiled last Thursday to commemorate the team’s 100th season.
The jerseys are red with a blue midsection, with white bordering stripes and white numbers, while the pants are tan and the socks are red with blue and white stripes.
“It’s gonna be hard to swag it out, that’s all I got to say about it,” Nabers told Sports Illustrated at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere.
Asked how he can make it look good, Nabers said, “I don’t know. I’ma have to see when I put it on.”
The uniform, which the Giants can wear up to two times during the 2024 NFL season, includes homages to the franchise’s 1933 jersey, 1938 helmet and 1925 pants and socks.
The winged blue and red helmet was worn from 1937-47.
All of the Giants’ jerseys this season will feature a “100 seasons” patch on the front.
The Giants previously had a red jersey that they wore once a year from 2004-07.
Nabers arrives to the Giants with expectations of providing a major boost to the offense after the team did not take a quarterback in the first round, opting to stick with Daniel Jones as he works back from a torn ACL and tries to shake questions about whether he’s a legitimate franchise QB.
The 20-year-old receiver quickly signed a four-year, $29.2 million contract that includes an $18.1 million signing bonus.
“When I put my name on that paper I was kind of shaking a little bit and I got emotional,” Nabers said during the Giants’ rookie minicamp earlier this month. “The job’s not done but another stage in my life was done. For me to make it to this part of my life and my journey, it was a pat on my back in that moment.”
