Glenn McCormick delivered his standout performance of the 2025 motocross season over the weekend, securing his best result yet in the fiercely competitive MX2 class at Preston. The Northern Irish rider put together an impressive ride on the technical Preston circuit, demonstrating a potent combination of speed, endurance, and tactical intelligence to claim a top-five finish that has revitalized his campaign.
McCormick, who has faced a rollercoaster of a season with a mix of promising starts and mechanical frustrations, finally found a rhythm at Preston. From the opening lap of qualifying, he looked comfortable on the track, attacking the sharp corners and elevation changes with renewed confidence. His lap times were consistently among the fastest of the day, and he carried that momentum straight into the motos.
In the first moto, McCormick got off to a solid start, exiting the first turn within the top ten. By mid-race, he was locked in a battle for fifth and managed to hold off a late charge from a rival rider to finish sixth—a result that matched his season’s best up to that point. But it was in the second moto where McCormick truly shone.
Capitalizing on a clean start and sharp early passes, McCormick surged into fourth place by the third lap. From there, he maintained a blistering pace and displayed remarkable consistency, avoiding the errors that plagued others in the field. A brief challenge from a competitor late in the race didn’t faze him, and McCormick crossed the line in fourth, earning his best single-race finish of the year.
Combined, his moto results placed him fifth overall for the weekend—a career-high for the 2025 campaign and a major step forward for the ASA United GasGas rider.
“Honestly, I’m buzzing,” McCormick said after the race. “It’s been a tough year with some bad luck and little setbacks here and there, but today everything clicked. The bike felt incredible, and I just tried to ride smart and aggressive when it mattered. Preston’s not an easy track, but I felt at home out there today.”
The result also marks an important milestone in McCormick’s development as a top-tier MX2 competitor. Having come through the ranks of British motocross with grit and determination, the 26-year-old has consistently shown flashes of brilliance, but consistency has often eluded him. Preston, however, suggested that a turning point may be on the horizon.
Team manager Lee Tolan praised McCormick’s performance, noting the maturity and confidence he exhibited throughout the weekend. “Glenn showed today what we’ve always known he’s capable of,” Tolan said. “It was a smart, gutsy ride, and to bring home our best result of the season in such a competitive class is huge for the team.”
McCormick’s result at Preston also earned him valuable championship points, boosting his standing in the MX2 table and setting the stage for a potential late-season surge. With just a few rounds remaining, momentum is crucial—and the Irishman may have found it at just the right time.
Looking ahead, McCormick remains focused but cautious. “This result gives me a lot of confidence, but I know there’s still work to do,” he said. “We’ll keep building and pushing for more results like this. The pace is there—I just need to keep it going.”
With confidence surging and the bike setup finally dialed in, McCormick’s performance at Preston could very well be the catalyst for a strong finish to the 2025 season. Fans and fellow riders alike will be watching closely to see if the rider from County Down can keep his upward trajectory and make a real impact i
n the closing rounds.
