NFL Foundation Awards Grants to Over 400 NFL Players, Legends, and Coaches to Host Free Youth Football Camps

In a move to bolster youth development through sport and community engagement, the NFL Foundation has announced it is awarding grants to more than 400 current and former NFL players, coaches, and Legends to host free youth football camps across the country. This initiative continues a long-standing tradition of the NFL’s commitment to youth empowerment, physical fitness, and community outreach, and aims to positively impact thousands of children during the offseason.

The grants are part of the NFL Foundation’s Youth Football Camp Grant Program, which has supported these types of initiatives for decades. Each grant helps cover expenses for equipment, facilities, and staffing, allowing NFL-affiliated individuals to host no-cost football camps in their local communities. The camps typically focus not only on athletic training and skill development but also on fostering values such as teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and respect.

According to the NFL Foundation, this year’s program will support camps in more than 40 states, reaching tens of thousands of young participants. Many camps are expected to be held in areas that are underserved or have limited access to youth sports programs, reinforcing the Foundation’s goal to make the game more inclusive and accessible. Each participating player or coach helps to design their camp experience, ensuring that it reflects their values, personal story, and commitment to giving back.

Troy Vincent Sr., NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations, emphasized the broader mission behind the initiative: “These free football camps are more than just opportunities to learn the game—they are opportunities to change lives. By investing in these players, coaches, and Legends, we’re investing in communities and in the next generation of leaders.”

The camps offer instruction on both fundamentals and advanced football techniques, often led by the hosting player along with a team of volunteers, trainers, and high school or college coaches. In addition to drills and scrimmages, many camps include life skills sessions where young athletes hear firsthand about the importance of education, leadership, and mental resilience. Some even bring in guest speakers from law enforcement, the military, or other community organizations to further inspire and guide attendees.

NFL players, both active and retired, have embraced the opportunity to give back. For many, these camps are personal. They often return to their hometowns or former neighborhoods where they first developed their love of the game. By hosting camps in these familiar communities, players aim to provide children with the same support and inspiration they once received—or wish they had.

“My camp is about more than football,” said former NFL cornerback and Pro Bowler Charles Tillman, who has hosted several camps with the support of the NFL Foundation. “It’s about showing these kids that someone believes in them. I grew up in a tough neighborhood, and having mentors and community support made a huge difference in my life. I want to pass that on.”

The NFL Foundation’s commitment to youth football also aligns with its broader goals of player engagement and community service. The program not only benefits youth but also allows NFL alumni to maintain active roles in their communities. For coaches and Legends, it’s a way to stay connected to the game they love while mentoring the next generation of players.

In recent years, the camps have expanded in scope and inclusivity. Many camps now welcome girls, offer flag football options, and integrate lessons on nutrition, wellness, and mental health. These additions reflect the evolving landscape of youth sports and the NFL’s efforts to remain inclusive, forward-thinking, and community-centered.

The NFL Foundation continues to be a leader among professional sports leagues in philanthropic efforts, having distributed millions of dollars in grants for youth development, health and safety initiatives, and community programming. By empowering NFL-affiliated individuals to serve their communities in this direct and meaningful way, the Foundation underscores the belief that football can be a powerful tool for positive change.

As the 2025 offseason begins, hundreds of camps will soon open their doors to eager young athletes. While they’ll be learning how to block, tackle, catch, and run, they’ll also be gaining something much more valuable—confidence, camaraderie, and the realization that the NFL cares about their future both

on and off the field.
