In a moment that will be etched into th annals of Louisville women’s basketball history, senior forward Olivia Cochran has officially set the program record for career games played — a testament not only to her talent, but to her endurance, leadership, and relentless dedication to the game.

Cochran, a 6-foot-1 forward from Columbus, Georgia, broke the record during Louisville’s most recent matchup, stepping onto the court for the 143rd time in a Cardinals uniform. With that appearance, she surpassed the previous mark held by former greats and etched her name into the record books — forever a symbol of consistency and passion.

A Career Built on Grit and Growth

Olivia Cochran arrived at Louisville as a highly-touted recruit in the Class of 2020, ranked among the nation’s best high school players. From day one, she showcased a maturity and poise well beyond her years. As a freshman, she quickly earned a starting role and played a pivotal part in helping the Cardinals capture an ACC regular season title and earn a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Over the years, Cochran’s game evolved. Initially known for her physical post presence and rebounding ability, she expanded her offensive skill set, improved her defensive awareness, and grew into a vocal leader on and off the court. By the time she reached her senior season, she wasn’t just a player — she was a pillar of the program.

Head Coach Jeff Walz, who has built Louisville into a national powerhouse, has praised Cochran often for her reliability and team-first mentality.

“Olivia has been the kind of player every coach dreams of — tough, smart, resilient,” Walz said. “She shows up every single day ready to work, ready to compete, and ready to represent Louisville with pride. Setting this record is a reflection of everything she brings to our program.”

More Than Just a Number

While 143 games may seem like just a number to some, in college basketball, it represents a rare level of consistency. It’s a record that tells the story of countless hours in the gym, early mornings in the weight room, late nights watching film, and the physical toll of four (and in Olivia’s case, five) seasons at the highest level of collegiate competition.

Cochran’s durability is remarkable in a sport where injuries and the grind of the schedule often limit longevity. But more than that, her presence has been constant in an era defined by player transfers and roster turnover.

“I take pride in being there for my team,” Cochran said after setting the record. “Every time I put on that jersey, I just try to give everything I have. To be able to do that for so many games, and to make history at a place like Louisville, it means the world to me.”

A Legacy of Leadership

Beyond the numbers, Cochran’s legacy is built on leadership. Younger players consistently speak about her mentorship, her voice in the locker room, and the example she sets in practice.

Sophomore guard Nyla Harris shared, “Olivia’s always been someone I look up to. She’s steady. She’s strong. When things get tough, she’s the one you want on the floor with you.”

In many ways, Cochran represents the soul of Louisville basketball — gritty, team-oriented, and unselfish. Her game isn’t flashy, but it’s effective. Whether it’s taking a charge, setting a hard screen, or battling for an offensive rebound, she does the little things that make teams win.

Celebrating a Historic Career

As the regular season winds down and the postseason looms, fans, teammates, and coaches are all taking a moment to appreciate what Cochran has accomplished. Her career includes multiple trips to the NCAA Tournament, a Final Four appearance in 2022, and All-ACC honors. But this latest milestone — most games played in program history — is uniquely hers.

Cardinal fans honored her with a standing ovation when the record was announced in the arena, and social media lit up with tributes from alumni, teammates, and fans across the country.

“Congratulations, Liv,” former Louisville star Dana Evans wrote on Twitter. “Proud of you and everything you’ve done for this program. True legend.”

What Comes Next

Though Cochran has already cemented her place in Louisville history, her story isn’t done yet. With the postseason on the horizon, she’s focused on one thing: winning.

“We’ve got more basketball to play,” Cochran said. “Records are great, but my goal is to help this team go as far as we can. I want to finish strong, for my teammates and for this program.”

As Louisville continues its journey through the final stretch of the season, one thing is clear: with Olivia Cochran on the floor, they have a steady hand, a seasoned leader, and a living piece of program history.

And for future generations of Cardinals, her record will stand as both a challenge and an inspiration.
