Real Madrid is mourning the loss of one of its most iconic and cherished supporters. Sergio Nieto, the club’s number one socio, has passed away at the age of 100. His connection to Los Blancos spanned nearly a century, having been a registered socio (member) for an astonishing 93 years—a record that embodied unmatched loyalty and devotion.
Nieto’s bond with Real Madrid began in 1931, when he became a socio as a young boy, just 7 years old. At that time, the club was still decades away from becoming the global powerhouse it is today. Throughout generations of footballing change, triumph, and transformation, Sergio Nieto remained a constant. He witnessed the club’s humble beginnings, its domination in the 1950s led by Alfredo Di Stéfano and Francisco Gento, the glory of the Galácticos era, and the modern dynasty built under Florentino Pérez’s leadership.
Real Madrid released an official statement expressing deep sorrow and gratitude for Nieto’s extraordinary commitment. “The club wishes to express its condolences and affection to all his family and loved ones. Sergio Nieto represented the soul of Real Madrid—a supporter whose passion never wavered,” the statement read.
Nieto’s presence was deeply felt within the Madridista community. As the club’s longest-standing member, he was more than a fan—he was a living bridge between generations. Often celebrated by the club during anniversaries and special events, he held socio number 1 status with pride, a symbol of enduring love for the crest.
Club president Florentino Pérez also paid tribute, stating, “Sergio Nieto was a model for every Madridista. His dedication to Real Madrid over nearly a century is something we will never forget. He is part of our history.”
Throughout his life, Nieto remained close to the club’s activities and attended countless matches at the Santiago Bernabéu. Even in his later years, his connection never faded. When asked what Real Madrid meant to him, Nieto once said, “It’s not just a club. It’s my life. It’s family, it’s pride, it’s joy and sorrow all in one.”
As Real Madrid continues to build toward the future—with a new stadium, young stars, and global ambitions—Sergio Nieto’s legacy stands as a reminder of the values the club holds dear: loyalty, tradition, and unshakable support.
He may be gone, but his presence will live on in the heart of every Madridista. Rest in peace, Don Sergio Niet
o. Hala Madrid.
