Chelsea will reportedly allow up to 12 players to leave before the end of the summer transfer window in a major firesale. Enzo Maresca’s squad needs trimming despite the Blues already allowing six stars to depart Stamford Bridge.
Conor Gallagher and Ben Chilwell are reportedly among the dozen players who could be sold to recoup funds. Speculation surrounding Gallagher’s future has been rife and he has long-standing interest from Premier League rivals Tottenham.
Any fee received for the academy graduate would constitute pure profit and look good on the club’s accounts, with Chelsea still facing a battle to be sure of avoiding a profit and sustainability regulations (PSR) breach. It is claimed that Atletico Madrid have made two bids for the £50million-rated England international.
According to The Sun, Chelsea could give the green light to another 11 outgoing deals. Chilwell’s future is supposedly in doubt as the wing-back’s profile does not naturally fit into Maresca’s preferred style.
Like Gallagher, Chelsea will also hope to make substantial profits on graduates Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja. The former was brutally left out of the club’s squad for their tour of the United States, while Broja is surplus to requirements following a raft of attacking additions in west London.
Chelsea are likely to offload outcasts Romelu Lukaku and Kepa Arrizabalaga. However, there may be some surprise that they are willing to listen to offers for goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, the Serbian goalkeeper who signed last summer and spent the second half of last season as Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice shot-stopper.
Five young stars could then follow them out of the door by sealing either loan deals or permanent departures. It is claimed that Lesley Ugochukwu, Harvey Vale, Leo Castledine, Cesare Casadei and David Datro Fofana may leave
Chelsea have already been typically busy during the summer, with consortium BlueCo remaining happy to splash the cash as long as players depart. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Renato Veiga, Omari Kelleyman and Caleb Wiley have all joined the club for a combined £74m.
Remarkably, Chelsea have made a reported profit on their business ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Around £85m has been recouped for the sales of Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall and Omari Hutchinson.
Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva and Hakim Ziyech all departed Chelsea at the end of their contracts, freeing up vast sums from the club’s wage bill.
