For eight innings at Coors Field on Saturday night, it was more of the same for the Phillies. No, not another night of celebrating what had become the norm for the Phillies, the makings of a convincing win to up their MLB-best record. It was, instead, more muted bats at the plate, at Coors Field no less.
But then, in the ninth, Philadelphia’s bats awakened. Edmundo Sosa delivered an RBI triple and Garrett Stubbs — catching in place of J.T. Realmuto, who was given a day off — came through with a go-ahead single. Bryce Harper later smashed a three-run homer and Nick Castellanos capped the ninth inning eruption with an RBI single, and the Phillies beat the Rockies, 8-4.
Aaron Nola started for the Phils and, despite not having his best stuff in the hitter’s haven of Coors, he gutted through six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits while walking two and striking out five on 103 pitches.
Seranthony DomÃnguez, José Ruiz and Spencer Turnbull each turned in an inning out of the bullpen.
