That could severely impact how much playing time Rodrygo gets, and Petit believes it would therefore be good for him to move to Chelsea for more first-team football, while Real Madrid would also surely get a big fee for the Brazil international.
Chelsea had some issues up front in the season just gone, with Nicolas Jackson not quite hitting the heights some will have expected, even if he improved as the season went on.
Petit thinks Rodrygo could help Jackson, and advised his former club to go for the 23-year-old, even if it perhaps seems a bit unlikely.
Rodrygo transfer: Chelsea advised to sign Real Madrid forward
“I think Chelsea should sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid to help Nicolas Jackson next season,” Petit told Boyle Sports, as quoted by the Metro.
“With Mbappe arriving next season, one of Real’s big stars are going to be out of the XI, so I think this one makes sense for both parties.
“Real Madrid could get a big fee and he will also be great for Jackson, although he is still young.”
In another Daily Briefing column, however, Romano made it clear he did not expect to see Rodrygo leaving the Bernabeu this summer.
“Rodrygo wants to stay, he plans to stay, and he’s only thinking about Real Madrid – he loves the project and those close to the player believe it’s the best project in the world,” Romano said.
“There is no concern on Rodrygo’s side, no intention to leave, and he doesn’t want to create any problems for the club.”
He added: “Of course we’ll see Endrick and Kylian Mbappe joining in the summer, but it won’t change the story with Rodrygo – he’s not planning to leave, even if interest is always there, he is very happy with Real Madrid and they are very happy with him.”
